Will this be a good thing for the people of G.M. ????

Do you think Burnham will be getting out of his car?
I think this is a case of "do as I say, not as I do".

It is not really going back to the pre Greater Manchester, Wigan Corporation buses days, which came in April 1st 1974, but rather the 1986 bus de-regulation thing, which cut loose the buses into the private sector, it is that which screwed up the buses

I remember the days, (mid 1960's) when Manchester was considering building an underground railway. Some trial bores were made in the vicinity of Oxford Road rail station.

One of the meetings, which I attended, has gone down in history: Everyone in the room knew, but nobody dared say that the route under discussion appeared to ignore the existence of a then top secret underground facility: The Guardian Telephone Exchange.

It 'should' be a big change in the way that the buses are run, and for the better, and I know that yoo are a bike-ist, but not everyone can ride a bike

Tommy Tee, I use the bus quite frequently and I'm all in favour of ' better service and more choice' All too often we can be waiting half an hour for a bus and when it comes, the bus is packed like sardines and then. another empty bus overtakes the full bus, That is Bad management and needs addressing,

We used to have a small bus that ran from Ashton to Wigan but they took it out or service so to get to Wigan we have to walk half a mile, it was the 307 service and it was very handy, Burnham if you read this then put the bus back on,

Bentlegs, Yes that was a good bus for us to use too, It went down Poolstock lane and avoided the busy traffic at the saddle, They replaced it with a bus that goes to worsley Hall along the same route past my house but, Now goes up Pemberton for some reason, My friends used to use it who live on Wentworth road, they now have to use taxis because of the long walk ( for an OAP ) the the main bus stops, So yeah

Andy ,Wake up, help the elderly

Not sure if this is true but I was asking an Arriva bus driver today how much was it to goto St Helens from Wigan and he said £2. He then said next month it goes upto £2.50. My reply was does that include the Bee network buses as well and he said yes

I thought the £2 bus fare was capped at that price?

I got a BEE BUS today, the number 10 out of Wigan to Ashton, It was a double decker diesel engined normal bus with new seats and internal fitments, I dunno if it was the driver or an auto ' stop/start device but, If the bus stopped to pick up passengers and there were a few, the engine cut out, It did not if only one passenger was coming on board or gerrin off and it did not start/stop at traffic lights so,,,My conclusion is, the driver decides when to stop n start and not the ' not so smart' BEE BUS,,,,,

Very shortly and no doubt the same will follow in other Labour controlled Metropolian Countries, so why all the moaning about a fixed low fare of £2 for a 12 month period instead of the previous system of bus companies putting up fares when it suited them to do so in the course of any twelve month period.

The £2 fare is until September 2024 and then will obviously have to be reviewed as a result of rising costs which will include pay rises for staff as the wage bill is the biggest cost of any business.

Why they can't provide a bus to go to the retail park from Beech Hill I just don't know..there is a bus stop directly facing my house..but it's only used to take children to School..since I'm now on my own I very often have to get taxis, the last one charged me £6-70..life would be so much easier just to get on a bus.

Tom,re the bus keep switching off at every bus stop...I initially thought that they were electric but now I'm not so sure,I'm going to ask the driver next time I'm on a bus.
